At new year Stockholm should be covered with white shining snow and a black winter sky for a perfect background for the New Years fireworks. This year it is unlikely with snow but it will be dark as usual.

Most people in Stockholm spend New Year either at a private party or at a dinner with friends and family but restaurants are getting more and more popular and is of course perfect for tourists. At midnight you take your warm jacket over your nice party clothes and go outside for a toast with champagne and watch the beautiful fireworks.

This year the fireworks will be fired from beneath the castle which would make the following sites best suited to watch Stockholms official fireworks. Do also check the direction of the wind as the smoke usually can cover up the whole firework if you are in the wrong direction.

Of course Skansen is always a good place to be, this is the most traditional celebration. Skansen have singing, dancing and minor fireworks of their own. Make sure to get a reservation if you want to dine out on the evening of the 31st.
